ABSTRACT
A
finite element based micromechanics model was developed
in the present study for the nonlinear response of the SCS-6/Ti-6Al-4V
composite material. The elastic-plastic deformation in the
matrix material was modeled, as well as the thermal residual
stresses resulted from the high temperature processing.
An interphase zone between the fiber and the titanium matrix
was included in the finite element model. The progressive
damage in the composite material which initiated at the
interphase zone was studied. The nonlinear responses of
the SCS-6/Ti-6-4 composite under various loadings, including
multiaxial loading, were presented.
